Hari Raya at Panglima Kinta Mosque

Panglima Kinta Mosque
I celebrated Hari Raya in a mosque for the first time. It was great for me because it was not just any mosque but Panglima Kinta Mosque, the oldest mosque in Ipoh.

The mosque is over 100 years old with interesting architecture, standing among the shop lots built by Yau Tet Shin in 1910. .

As for the interior it is basic but wonderfully cooling and peaceful.

Tourists visiting the mosque are briefed by tour guides

The open house offered the usual delicacies that came with Hari Raya such as the lemang and rendang but here was included Nashid singing and a tour of the mosque by tour guide.

Mosque committee chairman Toh Muda Panglima Kinta Datuk Ab Wahab Azizul Hassan said the mosque was built in 1898 making it 119 years old.

"Built during the British colonial period it shared Moghul as well as neo-classical Greek and Roman architectural elements.

It cost 15,000 Straits Dollars to build in 1898. It is now gazetted as a heritage building.

  1. It's a beautiful mosque but even the committee that runs it is not completely aware of its true history.

Plus I'm not sure they want to learn.
