At KL Sentral at 7.30 in the evening in MacDonalds. Noticed all these Brothers  waiting over their food ..... with hands together ..... made me realise it was about time to Buka Puasa.

When it was time they prayed and then tucked in.

After i finished my meal noticed the pair of dates the counter staff had provided. Nice to be part of this culture.

Apex Club of Ipoh Kinta with a current membership of 7 members recently undertook a recruitment drive.

Jesse Mah of Apex National Task
Force explaining its objectives
With the assistance of the National Task Force to revive the club, Apex Ipoh club organised their 1st Monthly Dinner Meeting on the 10 May 2019, held at the Royal Ipoh Club.

At their 1st Dinner Meet they handed over 100 UPSR workbooks to 3 schools SJKT  Gunung Rapat, SJKT Methodist and SJKT Sathiasala, Chemor.

A turn-out of 60 Apexians who journeyed from Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Kajang, Damansara, Penang, Sungai Petani and Seremban together with guests and friends attended their first Dinner Meeting making their event a huge success.

Apex was founded in Australia in 1937 by 3 young men whose objective was to help their community during the recession.

Twelve years later in 1969, Apex Club was registered in Ipoh by ex-OCPD of Petaling Jaya Anthony Petrus. During its heydays it had 30 active members who undertook various community projects.

Over the years complacency set in due in part to a dwindling membership. Guests, friends and Apexians was reminded of how active Apex was in Ipoh during the 70s and 80s by the Task Force and what Apex club Ipoh had in store for its community service projects.

Apex Ipoh Club President Sivananthen announced the projects to be carried out. These
were

1) Apex Ipoh will work together with Apex Petaling Jaya to manage the “Single Parents Project” in Sg Siput.

2) Apex Ipoh will work and support an Orang Asli school in Perak where children from that school will adopt and undergo training.

3) Apex Ipoh will organise a Blood Donation and the Apex Public Awareness Campaign in the very near future.

He appealed to the community of Ipoh to come forward and join Apex Ipoh in its activities of helping the less fortunate community in Perak.

Part of the 60 strong participants at the Dinner Meeting
Guest and friends were encouraged to support the club by participating in its activities and bringing their family members along to help out.

Sivananthen also thanked the National Task Force represented by Apexian's Jesse Mah and AS Naidu for its guidance and assistance to revive Apex Ipoh..

The Pollution Of Lubuk Yu Forest Eco Park, Maran Pahang

This was Lubuk Yu Forest Eco Park

This is what happened.  Lubuk Yu Forest Eco Park is located in the Berkelah Forest Reserve, 30 km from Bandar Maran, Pahang. Did logging dry up this river.

Will Perak ever experience this. Will Logging and other development activities in our still pristine parks and forest reserves lead to what’s happened to Lubuk Yu Forest Eco Park.

The SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) of the Ipoh City Council (MBI)

One residents observation of MBI's style of work which is repeated throughout the city leaves much to be desired.

By Martin Jalleh

A grass-cutter (a worker of a private contract company, I am told) appears in our housing estate.

He is fully garbed – sunglasses, long-sleeves, saronged pants and machine -- all ready to do a fine and fierce job?

He cuts the grass on the roadside and along the margins of the road. It’s a very chin-chai (sloppy) job. I should know -- I do my own grass-cutting in my garden.

I can see that He is in a hurry to finish it and to move on to the next road where some of his colleagues are doing the same.

The cut grass is strewn all over the road. A considerable amount falls into the drain. It’s left there for days…weeks…even months at times.

The drains become clogged. After some time, the grass+leaves+drain water concoction gives a terrible stench.

The drains soon become a perfect mosquito-breeding ground. (But when there is a dengue outbreak the MBI comes to check on your house and garden – not the drains!)

When the residents can take the stench any longer -- they call the MBI. Weeks later, a team of men/women dramatically appears. They make their presence felt!

They dig up the grass, dead leaves and rubbish in the drains. Take several intermissions! Talk endlessly! Pretend to work extra hard when their mandor (overseer) suddenly appears.

They use a wheelbarrow to collect that which has clogged up the drains -- and they dump it by the side of the road – to be collected by a lorry which will come a few days or even weeks later – or does not come at all, till the grass and leaves rot!

Then.... the grass-cutter will appear again – to “create jobs” for the rest of the workers in Ipoh City Council – which reminds us to pay our yearly quit rent promptly!

Ipoh – Clean? Green? Or a “Has-Been? Let’s not continue to fool ourselves!

Ipoh Echo’s Chan See Foon Visits Chew Museum – Wazzup!

Seated: Ignatius Chew, Chan See Foon, Datin Stella Lim, Christine Yeoh Choo Hoon and Dato' Lim Si Boon. Standing: Agnes Chew, LS Yeoh, Yeoh Choo Swee, Yeoh Choo Siew and Lim Pui San
Chan See Foon visited Ignatius’s Chew Museum recently, a far cry from the good food trails she regularly posts about.

Was it a casual visit? Was the presence of Dato Lim Si Boon and Christine Yeoh Choo Hoon a coincidence. I guess we’ll have to wait for the next issue of Ipoh Echo.

Saint Michael the Archangel...

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls

Receiving the award from Mr Yu Hai, the President of CASBE ( China Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles)

It was indeed a very a proud moment for the girls as they had slogged hard for the past one year and transformed into a rhythmic marching band, reliving the school motto of the band ‘Rhythm on the March, Passion in the Heart.

Liew added that this event being a festival every day the members of the band played a series of performances at the Shanghai International Fashion Centre and the Hans Andersen Theme Park.

On a breezy May 1st morning below the Yangpu Bridge

On an early but wet morning, at the Shanghai Fashion Centre despite the dangers of slipping or skidding on the wet floor, the girls braved the cold and put up a wonderful show for the visitors.

At the Shanghai Fashion Centre

At Pudong with the Pearl Tower on the horizon the memory of the trip will be etched with our AMC Band girls for posterity.

The members are scheduled to return on 5th May.
