SamaSama Daki – Infusing Sport In Pre-Medeka Celebrations

Thumbs up to morning exercise
One difference that this pre-Merdeka SamaSama celebration has introduced is mixed and matched events and infused tourism with physical activity or sport.

We had the SamaSama Daki event last weekend 27 August when State Chairman for Youth and Sport Howard Lee addressed a group of exercise enthusiast before walking up Kledang Hill before 8am.

The walk at Kledang Hill caters to entire spectrum of Ipoh's community

If this Sama2 Daki event was another of the new state government initiative in trying to bring the communities together it again was on the right track as Kledang Hill has always brought the community out both young and old. Good initiative Howard Lee.

..at Sama2 Ria event the night before then at....
..Car Free Day next morning ....
Hours earlier Lee was seen at the SamaSama Ria, Cultural Street event with Tan Kar Hing and after this Kledang event was at the Car Free Morning at Jalan Raja DiHilir.

Leadership by example maybe but a positive message.

Tourism Perak Gets It Right With SamaSama Ria

The Cultural Street Festival held on Jalan Maharajalela, Old Town
If you were one of the lucky few to catch Tourism Perak’s SamaSama Ria last weekend you would have come away at the truly wide variety of the cultures of Malaysia.

Billed as a Cultural Street Fest it lived up to its name and had all the elements of Malaysian Culture - Malay, Chinese, Indian, Orang Asli, Sikh they were all there.

From top - a Malay martial arts display, Orang Asli handicraft and an Indian Peacock dance group.
State Tourism Chairman Tan Kar Hing has been repeatedly saying this was the new state government initiative in trying to bring the communities together. Well he has hit the nail on its head with SamaSama Ria.

As I walked around the stalls I noted all the communities enjoying what was on display.

There was one girl who obviously knew how read music trying her hand on the Gamelan. Another family was trying on Indian dressing and wrapping his head in a turban and wearing a saree then took a photo, very basic but so much fun.

But the drawback was it was only for one night. On Facebook many said they didn’t know about the event.

Very interesting and beautiful performance by young artists from 'One Piece Production' of Sekolah Seni Malysia, Perak

Possibly some of the events might be showcased again next weekend at SamaSama Gema held at Taman DR Seenivasagam.

Catch you there.

SamaSama Sketch – Capturing The Sights Of Ipoh Before Merdeka Day

Alice Ng with son Ivan Tong with their sketches of Ipoh Railway Station
It was nice scene seeing people of all ages, literally from children to the seniors, came out for fun filled day of…..SKETCHING.

When I checked at 10am that morning there were 141 registered participant. Each participant received an A4 sketch book to get started.

The participants were required to sketch 5 locations
All they had to do was sketch 5 locations along the heritage trail and win a prize for their effort. The five locations were Ipoh Railway Station, Masjid Negeri, Chung Thye Phin Building /Arlene House, Han Chin Pet Soo and Jalan Sultan Iskandar.

SamaSama Sketch was just of several events organized by state tourism chairman in collaboration with Urban Sketchers Ipoh as part of the Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations.

For most of the participants like Jack Chong it was a pleasure to take part in this event and possibly promote Ipoh.

For Alice Ng who was sketching with her son Ivan Tong it was natural. “With National Day around the corner it is natural for participants to want to come out to indulge in the mood and celebrate” said Ng who is from Hong Kong.

Young and old came fully prepared

How true. Natural, relaxed and serene that was the scene that I encountered with all the groups when sketching.

natural and relaxed was the event for all who came .....
