Chinese New Year 2018 At OMPH Church

The Chinese Mass on Day 1 at OMPH Church was beautiful, cultural and with keeping with tradition predominantly red.

Having attended the Chinese Mass last year and being intrigued with the mix of mass and culture I figured for another dose of this year would be interesting.

The rite of commemorating the ancestors does not contradict the teachings of the church and takes place after the Mass is over. It is a way of "enculturating" the Chinese culture into the local Church.

Similarly offering New Year greeting by bowing to each other then the offering ‘gold' oranges and an ang pow adds to what is tradition.

Then take home a memory of 2018 by taking that family photo to remember the Year of the Dog.
