MBI’s OPS TAC - Toilet, Apron and Cap Campaign.

Ipoh City Council has initiated a major campaign named OPS TAC or Operation Toilets, Apron and Cap (headgear) effective in November

'Important to practice good hygiene and
maintain clean toilets' Mayor Zamry
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man who made the announcement after the monthly board meeting said the goal is to create awareness to all licensees, operators and food handlers on the importance to practice good personal hygiene by wearing aprons, headgear (cap) and also maintain the cleanliness of the toilet.

“Additionally due the nomination by Lonely Planet of Perak being a ‘Must Visit Destination in 2017’ we must ensure our toilets whether at eateries and also at the airport are clean otherwise visitors might lose their appetite and have a negative impression.

Zamry added that the food handlers preparing food and drink too must maintain a standard to ensure they are clean and tidy from head to toe.

The operation is carried out by the Council, Food Safety and Quality Unit and Department of Public Health and Municipal Services

During 2016 a total of 738 units of restaurants and cafes was graded with 87.9% or 649 units  being rated Grade A and B while 695 units of toilets at food premises were audited with 615 units or 88.5% attaining 3 stars and above.

“However, there are still many food operators that have failed to maintain personal hygiene such as not wearing an apron and headscarf while there are licensees who failed due to dirty toilets” said Zamry.

To date, a total of 415 compounds with a total value of RM98,150.00 have been issued on a variety of offenses under the Food Handlers Law (MPI) Act 1981 and the Control  and Supervision of Food Outlets (MPI) 1981.
