The flood at Sg Senam at the Fair Park bridge. Cause: CLOSED WATERGATE. The water level was the same height as the roads Jalan Ashman Shah and Jln Kamaruddin Isa.
The recent
flash flood at Fair Park area was caused
by a contractor’s mistake in closing the watergate in that area said Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin. (Ipoh Echo 29 Jan)
“We executed
the project with KPKT to widen the Senam River in that area , but there was a
slight technical error on the part of the contractor and related departments
who closed the water gate.
Sg Senam the day after. A low flowing stream moving towards the watergate. Please note the width of the valley and the depth of the flood water. ....
..trying to get through the 'sole tiny watergate'....was the other 'watergate closed?"
So, when unexpected rain occurred, and the water couldn’t enter the river because the gate was closed, it caused the water to kick back into the drain, resulting in a flash flood."
(l) The houses on Taman Asia which was located next to Sg Senam was badly affected .....(r) the 'white fencing, beside Sg Senam
Nurse Amelia points to the level the water entered her house. Her car as well as her housemates, total 4 out of approximately 20 vehicles in the neighbohood were affected. At the height of the flood the 'white fencing next to the drain could not be seen'...Amelia
At a parallel road resident Shumayl points to the level the water entered his home. Fellow residents were drying their belongings and even threw out a soaked cabinet.
Sg Senam collects water from Canning Garden and Ipoh Garden for discharge to the Kinta River. The area is very developed.
Canning Garden market (l) area and (r) roundabout are frequently swollen. Drains are old and unable to contain the downpour.
Similarly (above) at Jln Canning Estate, Ipoh Garden drains are filled to overflowing
..which fills up the Sg Senam at the Ipoh Garden area ..this had been occuring regularly
...proceeds towards Sg Senam , FRU area and flowing toward the Kinta River
Motorist wait for the flood waters to subside on Fair Park bridge ... flow over the road and back to the other side of Sg, Senam
..soil erosion at the 'other side' of Sg. Senam
Will the Watergate be ready before the next big downpour
Went to the Fair Park disaster site but got sidetracked by the Thaipusam devotees. These guys are VANARA PADAI from Klang. They were on from 7am this morning. They walked barefoot to their transport....
Then this family came along going to the temple. 'Big' man carrying the pot like the rest. Bright costumes .. a welcome sight.
Michelle and Jean in Ipoh for their 'special Marriage'
Oscar award winner Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and Datuk Seri Jean Todt were in Ipoh over the weekend of 17 December 2023 where they had a ‘special kind of marriage' reception.
The couple were dressed casually for the event. Michelle wore a lime green top over an apple green trouser and platform sneakers while Jean had on a dark collarless t-shirt and slacks.
As the couple addressed the crowd, consisting of mainly family members and a small group of close friends, clapped and hummed the wedding march while others threw flowers of confetti.
Michelle Yeoh married Jean Todt earlier this year at Geneva, Switzerland. Jean had first proposed to Michelle in 26 July 2004. Although she had said yes on that same day she married him exactly 19 years or 6992 days later on 27th July 2023.
Jean addressed the crowd saying that 'today after 7135 days we are in Ipoh. We have known each other for many years but now we are happy to announce our marriage officially with all of you here today'.
..they made the announcement ..
..shared her trophy with the audience ...
Michelle added that her family and cousins some of whom had come from far and near such as Canada, UK, US and Singapore were present this weekend.
"Today is very special.I wish my dad was here. It was something he always wanted. Everyone here today are witnesses that Jean and I actually married after nineteen years". She later displayed her Oscar Award.
..that KISS moment when Jean kissed her cheek ...
The audience repeatedly requested that Michelle and Jean kiss. Michelle was reluctant but Jean decided to make the first move to kiss Michelle on the cheek to applause from the family members. Michelle appears stunned to which Jean proceeds to kiss her on the lips. More applause. While Michelle appears surprised Jean nonchalantly has a smirk of accomplishment.
..then the lips ... no you shouldn't have done that!!!
the audience is satisfied ..Jean smirks
The lunch reception was held at Little Katong. Chef David Tan is a childhood friend of Michelle and they grew up together.
It was a truly family gathering where all in the family came together for the weekend just to greet Michelle and Jean. For many it was a most enjoyable and happy day to see their Michelle married.
there was joy all around ...
...for the entire family ....
..relatives from overseas ...
...more from overseas ....
...then from home ....

The individual panels based on the Joyful mysteries
Catch the blessing
of the Stained Glass panels at the Main Convent Chapel this Saturday 16th
December at 8am.
Magnificent .... the Main Convent
Based on the
Joyful Mysteries the panels were first announced In April and now in December
are about to be blessed.
At the work-in-progress last Saturday at the Chapel
The folks at
COGA (Convent Old Girls Association) have done a good job of restoring the beauty
to the Chapel.
There will
be a lot to do and see in Ipoh town this weekend but start it with an early
Chapel blessing. And maybe make a contribution to the Stained Glass Chapel
which is still short of its target.
I attended the Last Rosary for October by BEC area St Francis of Assisi..they had a lovely decorated altar
the area members ....
the final hymn sung to the tune 'Amazing Grace'
..after the Rosary a 'makan kecil' fellowship with nasi kunyit, chicken curry, popiah, loh si fun, mango's and jam rolls ...did i mention the meal was 'kecil'....
It was an easy day. Nothing urgent. The kids were free so we (the family) decided to have lunch together. Tok Alang was thrown out and we all agreed. On a working day a 3 hour lunch is ok.
Haven't been here to Tg Tualang for over 3 years. First it was because of the Pandemic and then i didn't have the crowd. You do need the numbers to order to enjoy what they have to offer. But the food is still superbly excellent thankfully and the taste is gastronomically great.
Sweet sour crab ... literally finger licking goodness gravy and all ...
Steam prawn each has a different flavour from ....
...deep fried prawns..and dipped in chilly sauce ...absolutely delectable
the smooth fleshy Lam Khor Yee ..... worth every penny
Tg Tualang ....undoubtedly still the best value in the state of Perak.
