Wah Idris - My Journey From KL-Ipoh Took Eight Hours

Datok Wah Idris 8 hours to Ipoh!
“My journey from KL to Ipoh took 8 hours using the North South highway” said popular composer Dato Wah Idris.

Wah Idris was returning to Ipoh on Saturday 10 to attend a book launch event by Sultan Nazrin at the Syuen Hotel schedule at 4pm

"I departed KL at 8am. It was bumper to bumper all the way going north bound so I exited the highway halfway and used the trunk road and reached the hotel just before the arrival of Raja Nazrin".

Unlike Wah Idris their highness' Raja Nazrin together with Tuanku Zara Salim and children Raja Azlan Muzzaffar Shah and Raja Nazira Safya had taken the ETS train. They left KL at 9am and arrived at Ipoh station two hours later.

Sultan Nazrin Launches Book on ‘Titles and Ceremonial Traditions of the Royalty and Nobility’

Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah today launched the book 'Titles and Ceremonial Traditions of The Royalty and Nobility of the State of Perak, Malaysia' held at the Syuen Hotel.

Sultan Nazrin was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim.

Also present at the ceremony was the Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Tan Sri Dr. Mohd. Zahidi Zainuddin, Minister of Human Resources M Kulasegaran, Speaker of the Perak  Assembly Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham and State Secretary Zainal Abu Seman.

The 1000 page book was written in English by Dr Adib Vincent Tung Abdullah and published by the Perak Academy.

Dr Adib said he first became interested in the topic during the time when the late Sultan Idris passed away and the Raja Muda, then Raja Azlan Shah was proclaimed the 34th Sultan of Perak.

“Since that time having witnessed the ceremonies related to funeral, proclamation and enthronement of Sultans I got interested and wanted to know more.

Initially I got answers from the late Panglima Kinta, Dato Seri Azizul Hassan bin Hj Abdul Rani, and Dato Seri Abdul Wahab, the Territorial Chief of Perak Tengah who was the head of ceremonies inside the Istana”.

Eventually he had to go out to interview people to understand what is Adat and so began his research which culminated after twenty years with the publication of “Titles and Ceremonial Traditions of the Royalty and Nobility of the State of Perak, Malaysia”

The book covers the Perak Sultanate since its establishment in 1528 , its rich customary rites and rituals which has withstood turbulence and survived to date that  its traditions and practices have been copied and absorbed into the royal courts of other states within our country.

The book includes the genealogies of Perak Sultans, hereditary chiefs and noblemen and also touches on topics as diverse as court etiquette, election and appointment of the Sultan, heirs presumptive, titled princes and hereditary chiefs and birth of a prince of blood royal to his eventual ascension to the throne.

State To Meet Quarry Operators Says Tan Kar Hing

(left) Tan Kar Hing (right) Caving group exploring Gua Air, Gunong Lanno
State Tourism chairman Tan Kar Hing said that the state would meet with quarry operators in the next forth night to see how to address the issues of Gunong Lanno.

“The state is aware of this issue since over month ago. I personally raised the issue earlier at the weekly exco meeting.

At the last exco meeting it was decided to call a meeting to be led by the state secretary, myself and state related agencies with the quarry operators and see how we can address the issues.

At this stage I cannot promise any outcome from this meeting but we will try to come away with a win-win situation for the state and for the country”.

Tan made the comments after the launch to announce the Perak tourism ambassador.

Gunong Lanno is one of the largest mountains in Kinta Valley which caving group Kinta Valley Watch is trying to preserve from the threat of quarry activities.

The mountain has 36 unique limestone caves housing a rich and natural biodiversity of flora and fauna and fossils. Within one of its caves, Gua Gatsch houses remains of the tin mining activity which the group is trying to preserve to showcase the industrial heritage of the Kinta Valley.

Tan also confirmed that Gunong Lanno had been recently gazetted as being part of the Geopark but could not provide details saying he would disclose them later.

He also confirmed there was no order to stop quarry- blasting operations around Gunong Lanno.

When alerted that the quarry operators have blasted into the 500 meter buffer zone Tan replied that he was not aware of it.

He added that if there was anything illegal both JMG (Mineral and Geosciences Department) and PTG (Department of Land and Mines) are monitoring and would take the necessary actions.
