The purpose
of the handover of fossils was to determine the age and what animal it is from.
The group
led by Ching Boon Tat and several of his supporters presented the specimens to Mr
Ling Nan Ley, Director (Geoscience) at the JMG offices. Also present was Mat
Niza Abdul Rahman of JMG and Perak State Parks Corp Ain Maisyara Yazrol .
Ching said
the fossils were found in an un-named cave in Gunong Rapat.
“The fossils
was near the surface but was covered in mud. The condition of the cave was wet
and muddy.
There were six type of mammal fossils belonging to wild boar, deer, porcupine, wild
cattle, monkey and rhinoceros.
Ching sent photographs
of the fossils to Paleontologist Lim Tze Tshen to identify the type of mammal.
Lim subsequently advised Ching to present the specimens to JMG for verification. There
was five specimens not identified and were possibly bone fragments.
Lim is the President
of the Paleontological Society of Malaysia and is based with Sarawak Museum. He
was in Ipoh a forth night ago and found 30 specimens of fossiled teeth of various
animals.
Ling from JMG
said the paleontology was one of the functions at the department.
‘Upon receiving
the specimens it will be dated. If the age is significant, up to 10,000 years
we can have it displayed at the museum within JMG premises’

Ling said
that the department would provide Ching an acknowledge of receipt for the
specimens delivered.
