“I don’t have a full report yet” said state tourism and culture exco Tan Kar Hing when replying to a media query on preserving Gunung Lanno.

He said that he has been in contact with the departments of Land and Mines, Mineral and Geoscience and Perak State Park and will wait for the full report before issuing a statement.

He added that it is the state government’s policy not to sacrifice the beauty of natural environment but to preserve it.

Tan made the statement at a Business Opportunity Seminar press conference last Saturday.

Gunung Lanno situated in Simpang Pulai is one on the largest mountains in the Kinta Valley. It is reported to have 36 documented limestone caves, is home to 7 of the 20 longest caves in the country and has unique attractions one of which is ‘crystal caves’.

But Gunong  Lanno has been in the news and social media recently because it is in danger due to quarrying and mining activities which could seal off all access these geoheritage wonders.  A recent quarry explosion affected Gua Air and defaced the cave.
