Day 9. One Family of Faith
The Parish Feastday of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. It was a trying time avoiding the rain but we prevailed to give the night a wonderful ending.
We had the Crowning of the Icon outdoors.
And the Candlelight procession around the Ipoh Garden neighborhood.........
The crowd capacity was estimated at over 2000. |
..............followed by the Benediction.
Devotees praying for guidance. |
It was
wonderful evening though it was fraught with anticipation of the impending rain.
Even Fr
Patrick Massang singing of Our Lady’s song “Gentle Woman” did not calm the
weather.
In fact towards the end of the song the wind became stronger with the first signs of raindrops beginning to fall.
In fact towards the end of the song the wind became stronger with the first signs of raindrops beginning to fall.
That was the
sign to move into the Church.
We had the
mass in Church.
But by having
the Mass in Church the Congregation seemed to be like the proverbial Lost Sheep,
In the Church Hall |
Little did
they know that the word had gone out that Crowning of the Icon and the
Benediction would be held outdoors.
Preparation of the outdoor altar |
The word
went out that immediately after communion the crowd would congregate outside
for the crowning to be followed by the procession.
And so it
was all’s well that ended well.

Day 8: The Golden Book.
On the eight
day of the Novena Fr Joseph Stephen blessed the Golden Book of Our Mother of
Perpetual Help.
The Golden Book is a compilation of all the donors who contributed to the Church building fund.
“The first donor towards the fund was Mrs Yeoh Khuan Joo with a sum of $200.00 in the year 1960. Most of the donations at that time averaged $5.00” said Fr Stephen.
Our Mother of Perpetual Help was blessed and
opened by the Rt Rev Gregory Yong , Bishop of Penang on the 15th
April 1972. Its first Parish Priest was the late Fr James Wallace, CSsr.
The Homily
for the night was ‘The Wider Family” delivered by Rev Fr Michael Raymond, OFM
Cap.
Day 9. Anointing of the Sick And Elderly
