This is the view of Gunong Terendum at ground level.. it looks horrible
I remember this Gunong was a lot taller than today, 7 July 2021 and was a greener patch along this stretch of the highway ..once upon a time
but now that green patch is overtaken by this destructive quarrying view at ground level
but viewed from above is a SORRY SIGHT ..
But that is Gunong Terendum ...LETS SAVE GUNONG LANNO ... while we still have the time
KC
In a few years, the hill will be no more, just barren ground. Or will the quarrying continue below ground?
ReplyDeleteThe mining for tin has left scars in the form of numerous mining pools and
run down villages and towns with little prospects of a hopeful future.
Many people have left once thriving local communities leaving behind the diehard and older generations to live out their lives.
Much of the wealth from tin was siphoned to the colonialist motherland to grease their economy.
There was no regenerative tax built in to rejuvinate the communities once tin was exhausted. Neither was there a live plan to redevelop the economy after end of tin.
Hence the near catastrophic effects of the economy in the late 80s.
Why would the colonialists bother to plan for the future when their days were numbered.
Has the country/govt learnt lessons from the past?
I don't hear debates about such issues.
Great photographs and comments, kintakid and chatterbox.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
It's obvious that colonialism worked for the benefit of the Home country – that was the whole point of the project – but what can we say about Malaysians who have continued the exploitation?
