The old and rusted pipe leaked water ...

Lovely photos of a really nice area. Kampung Malaysia is best!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful pictures that would remind us of its once importance to the open cast hydraulic mines of Gopeng Consolidated Ltd. It's usefulness ended when tin was depleted in the Kinta Valley more or less at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThis also reverberated to the consequential depression of Ipoh as a thriving town causing many job losses and desolation.
In fact, all mining towns were badly affected. Gopeng is a shade of its old self when I visited recently compared to when I was working there in the 60/70 era.
In its heyday, it supplied water at between 150 to 170 psi to all 5 mines at the same time plus water to the tin dressing plant and workers's quarters.
Needless to elaborate, it also supplied power to Gopeng Consolidated Ltd via its hydro power generator near its source.
The pipelines and the power plant had a dedicated team of workers to maintain them 24/7. Leakings, burst pipes were frequent and needed attention.
They had to go eventually leaving a short section over the main road south of Gopeng as a remembrance.
