The Grand Annual Feastday of OMPH Church 2024

The annual feast day at the Parish of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Ipoh was another grand gathering of parishioners. Other surrounding parishes had also joined in and devotees from KL and Singapore were present.

Unlike previous years, parish priest Rev Fr Joseph Stephen decided to have the event indoors as there was threatening indications of rain on the actual day. Well it didn’t rain hence the mass and the crowning of Our Lady was held indoors and the procession around the neighbourhood and benediction was held outdoors. Overall it was a most joyful event.

All sections, the church, porch, canteen area and hall were connected via cctv and it was a full house.

We had distinguished guests priests, Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski, the Apostolic Nuncio for Malaysia, Rev Fr Ino (Phillippines) the Vice-Provincial Superior of Malaysia and Singapore, Rev Fr Sixstus (Indonesia), Fr Joe Abraham and Rev Fr Robin Kumar (India) and our own Rev Frs Joseph Stephen, Fr Patrick Massang, Fr Phillip Lai, Fr Paul Kee and Fr Eugene Fernandez.

Names for Conseccration  

We had a lucky parishoner pass the crown to Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski who then placed the  crown on Our Mother Mary. The Consecration of names received was 15316 and was placed at the altar of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The float of of Our Mother was then taken in procession through the immediate neighborhood before returning to outdoor shrine and benediction.

The theme for the 8days of Novena focused on the Shrines of Mother Mary and why they were proclaimed shrines. On each of the 8 nights we were told interesting stories accompanied with slides the reason they were proclaimed shrines.

This year Fr Massang requested the Tamil, Chinese and Charismatic choirs to sing in their most melodic voices The showcase was held before the event and included the youth  of the parish performing a short dance accompanied by our singing Priest Fr Massang.

When all had been done the priests and parishoners sat down and had supper together the way we always do at the end of the celebration.

It was a grand Feast Day 2024 with the parishioners participating in the activities.

‘TRY TO REMEMBER’: A TRIBUTE CONCERT TO CHIN YOONG KIM

In Aid of: The Perak Association For The Intellectually Disabled (PAFID)

Venue: The Grand Ballroom, WEIL Hotel, Ipoh.

We’re back! … After a hiatus of six years from the stage, Ipoh Mali Theatre, in collaboration with PAFID, to proudly presents the charity gala concert, ‘TRY TO REMEMBER’.

This year, we return with a fervent mission: to share and celebrate with you a rich legacy of musical theatre in honour of the late Mr. Chin Yoong Kim, our maestro extraordinaire, who was also a treasured mentor to many, a beloved and esteemed school teacher, and a generous and caring soul to his associates, friends and family.

Our cast brings together Ipoh-born-and-bred talents from across three generations whose lives were touched by this exceptional man. They have starred in acclaimed musical productions staged by the ACS Music & Drama Society, the Perak Society of Performing Arts (PSPA) and Ipoh Mali Theatre from the 1960s up to the present day.

‘TRY TO REMEMBER’ would be our 2nd collaborative effort with PAFID, the first one being in 2018, titled ‘CHRISTMAS ON BROADWAY’. In 2016, the inaugural musical performance of Ipoh Mali Theatre, ‘MUSIC, WE THANK YOU’, was staged at WEIL Hotel, in aid of the needy pupils of ACS Ipoh. Yoong Kim was actively involved in both earlier concerts.

In December 2022, Yoong Kim was honoured in the farewell segment of the Boh Cameronian Awards as one of the late musical greats who had contributed to the music scene of Malaysia for the past 50 years.

Yet his life was lived in honest simplicity, inspired by the words of the Quaker missionary, Etiennne de Grellet:-‘I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to anyhuman being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.’

‘TRY TO REMEMBER’ is open to the public with admission by donation only in the amounts of RM200, RM300, and RM500 for VIP Patrons. Your contributions will directly benefit our cause PAFID .

OMPH Church' Annual Feastday Novena Celebration Starts Today - 14 June 2024

The annual celebration of  Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church Feast Day Novena starts tonight. It culminates on Saturday 22 June with the Crowning of the Icon and a candlelight procession. The theme for this year is ‘Shrines of Mary’.

The preached mass in Chinese starts of 17 June and the Tamil begins on 19 June.

"Only Collecting Peoples Feedback" .. The Town Hall Meeting@Monday 18th March ...

Mayor Rumaizi and the MBI team

The Town Hall meeting called yesterday morning was to "get the peoples feedback. No decision has been made on the implementation yet" said Mayor Rumaizi at the opening address this morning. Rumaizi was referring to the councils proposal to implement artificial turf  at football fields around Ipoh town. 

This project if implemented will be at the Polo Grounds and Taman DR Seenivasagam only. The Ipoh Padang was not included in MBI’s plan.

Yesterdays small turnout. I counted 140 chairs had been laid out. 

Senior residents that had voiced their opinions to the proposal 

Appproximately 140 participants attended this session which included Canning Assemblyman Jenney Choi, Councillor Wong Kar Keat, football associations, government representatives and a small number of residents consisting of mainly senior citizens. The meeting was held at the Ipoh Convention Centre at 9am.  

The majority of the residents who expressed their views were against the idea of an artificial turf to be implemented at the 2 mentioned sites. A resident suggested that the council find an alternative site to implement their plan and leave Padang Polo and Taman DR Seenivasagam undisturbed. However the MBI panel maintained that the 2 sites were suitable siting parking space as an example. 

There was one participant, who currently is coaching youth, was for the proposal of a ‘artificial turf’ and put forward good points which would benefit the youth.  

Councillor Wong said that he was not in favour of the proposal 

Councillor Wong Kar Keat and Canning Assemblyman Jenny Choi later declared that they were not in favour of implementing the artificial turf. 

Will MBI listen to the residents or will the council get its way. I guess we'll have to wait until Mayor Rumaizi has 'collected all his feedback'. 

The meeting ended by 11.30am.

MBI's Town Hall Meeting on 18 March - Registration of Attendance

For those that intending to attend the Town Hall meeting on 18 March at 8.45am at the Ipoh Convention Centre they are required to register themselves.

 Scan on the QR code and answer the questions then submit.Places are limited to 200 from the general public. The last day for registration is 14 March.

Why Does Mbi Want To Construct SYNTHETIC FOOTBALL FIELDS Around Ipoh..

The well maintained turf at Ipoh Padang and patronized by Ipoh residents throughout the year 

I received this alert calling for a Town Hall Meeting by MBI to discuss the construction of “SYNTHETIC FOOTBALL FIELDS AROUND IPOH’….”pembangunan padang bola sepak rumput sintetik di sekitar seluruh bandar raya Ipoh” .  I assume the alert was to seek residents approval to go ahead.

So why is this bizarre request for a Town Hall meet since all the fields are well looked after. Go to any field managed by the council be it Ipoh Padang, Taman DR Seenivasagam and even the Polo ground or Taman Rekreasi Sultan Abdul Aziz and you will see it is well patronized by Ipoh residents every day of the week nay even the whole year.

Why is replacing real grass with artificial grass becoming more popular?...

1).It does not need to be mowed with electric or fossil fuel mowers. ...2) It does not require watering,..3) It does not require the use of  harmful fertilisers or herbicides....4) It is drought resistant and eliminates puddling.....5) It stands up to heavy use.

However, the environmental issues caused from choosing to put down an artificial lawn far outweighs any of these potential benefits. 

Why is artificial grass harmful to the environment?

1) Artificial grass does not provide any food for living creatures. It restricts access to the soil beneath for burrowing insects and to the ground above for soil dwellers such as worms...2) It restricts access to natural materials like leaf litter and grass clippings – essential for feeding soil organisms like worms and microscopic animals and keeping the soil healthy...3) Artificial grass reaches significantly greater temperatures than those reached by natural grass under the same weather conditions. Plastic lawns can overheat in hot weather making them unusable...4) Artificial grass can contribute to global warming by absorbing significantly more radiation than living grass and, to a lesser extent, by displacing living plants that could remove carbon dioxide through photosynthesis.
