Ipoh Born Jockey’s Treble Wins On Friday Night

It was reported on the Singapore Turf Club that the team of trainer Mark Walker and Ipoh born jockey Benny Woodworth had claimed their first treble last Friday night at the Singapore race course 14 June 2019. The pair boasts 16 winners this season.

The treble wins came through Alex who got the ball rolling then Sacred Rebel and Sacred Don in the last two races.

‘Of the three winners Sacred Rebel was without a doubt the one with the most upside’ said Woodworth who had partnered Sacred Rebel

Woodworth has won 25 winners this year, with two-third of them supplied by trainer Walker.

Benny was first taught the basics of riding by his father, former amateur rider Ronald Woodworth at the Iskandar Polo Club in Ipoh.

Other than Singapore and Malaysia, Woodworth has taken his saddle to eight other countries, namely England, Australia, Macau, Mauritius, South Korea, Japan, Cyprus and Qatar.

YB Teja Sandra Ng Knows Gopeng Well …..

Yb Teja Sandra Ng (inset) and Gopeng's attractions
YB Teja Sandra Ng knows Gopeng and the surroundings well. White water rafting, hiking trails, Gaharu Tea Valley, Rafflesia and Rajah Brooke butterflies, several heritage museums are some of the current attractions said Ng recently.

“We need to package the products better by having the government work closely with private operators,”….plus the nearby attractions like Kellie’s Castle, Herbal Park and Gua Tempurung in Kampar as well as those available in Gopeng could be packaged together.

She had spoken to the state executive councillors for tourism and sports on the matter and in the last state assembly sitting the  Mentri Besar had stated the government’s intention of turning Gopeng into an adventure sports hub,”

Gopeng also used to be famous for ornamental fish rearing in the 1990s….but because of land title issues, the industry could not expand because it lacked investment, resulting in Malaysia losing out to Thailand and other countries.

“That is set to change” said Ng. Following discussions with the Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation, offer letters were given to interested parties to lease state land for three years to rear ornamental fish. Ng added the state government will also assist the farmers in undertaking research and development and by obtaining grants.

Both Gopeng and Kampar come under the newly-proclaimed Kinta Valley Geopark and its right next to Ipoh for the total package.

Sounds promising well let’s see how it pans out.

Pentecost At OMPH Church

The holy day of Pentecost is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter and commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles
Pentecost celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and filled them with Tongues of Fire.

Pentecost is celebrated on seventh Sunday after Easter. This year for the first time OMPH Church celebrated the day with much fanfare.

It started with the blowing of the Jerusalem horn the shosha where the group of servers circled round the Paschal candle.

Above them, behind the altar glowed a hallowed ring of fire.

The Paschal candle was subsequently extinguished and the shosha was played marking the start of Pentecost.

Iftar At The Istana

There was one year where I was asked to represent the office at a Buka Puasa event at the Istana Iskandariah at Kuala Kangsar.

It was held on 19 July 2014. I had never been to one before and so I went with my camera and it was fruitful.

Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Zara Salim were present together with the then Menteri Besar Zambri Abdul Kadir.

We started with ‘Iftar’ also known as "berbuka puasa" with the usual dates and the various foodstuffs such as Bubur Lambuk and washed that down with tea or coffee.

Could help notice the way the meals was set up. All of the palace cutlery had the Perak logo embossed on them including the serviettes. So to were their chairs, cross stitch table cloths and the use of doile table mats was nice to see and seldom seen now.

Then it was time for the Mahgrib prayers during which time I joined the other guys in the yard all the time taking night photos of the Istana.

When Tuanku returned it was time for dinner.

Afterwards it was time for the Terawih prayers. As they adjourned their Highnesses met with and greeted  some of their guests.

Where they returned it was to have their special supper or Moreh as it is called consisting of a snack and hot tea in a glass before we went home.

Another Been There, Done That.

Buka Puasa@KL Sentral

At KL Sentral at 7.30 in the evening in MacDonalds. Noticed all these Brothers  waiting over their food ..... with hands together ..... made me realise it was about time to Buka Puasa.

When it was time they prayed and then tucked in.

After i finished my meal noticed the pair of dates the counter staff had provided. Nice to be part of this culture.
