It’s that time of the year and the Convent Girls Alumni (COGA) got into the mood and held their ‘Christmas Carolling by Candelight’.

Held at the SMK Convent Chapel it was the perfect venue. Nothing like a bit of nostalgia in a heritage venue to celebrate a centuries old tradition, Christmas Carrolling.

It was a Children’s Choir led by COGA member Teresina Gonsalves taking the audience through all the favourites.

There was carolling and games and some leg shuffling. Overall it was also a family gathering and another of the season celebration leading up to Christmas.

Churches Setting That Christmas Mood

It seems that the Churches are leading with Christmas decorations this year. Modest they may be but true to the spirit that befits Christmas.

One of the first was Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Jalan Silibin on the 1^st Advent with the launch of their 55 meter Christmas tree which was illuminated with 1300 LED bulbs.

The Christmas Tree was blessed before it was lit up and was followed by a fireworks display.

Her, about working after marriage: I'm a career woman and will continue, he has no say in that area......my mom is happy that i have found my 'jodoh', mate.

Social-Media Romance – It Works At Any Age

Just Married. Joseph Michael Lee and Liew Swee Fong

Liew Swee Fong, 56 is the Principal of SMJK Ave Maria Convent and Joseph Michael Lee is a businessman who is also the Chairman of PTA of SMK St. Michael's Institution.

On Friday 7 December 2018 they registered their marriage at the Registrar of Marriages in the presence of relatives and friends, the oldest couple in the room that morning.

The Registrar who attended to them, Zulkifli Abu Hanafiah said the event was one of merriment and was very romantic when compared to other couples that pledge their love before him.

The relationship of Lee and Liew was a social-media romance that started on Facebook. When it got more personal they shifted to Whatsapp, which was more private and eventually led to a proposal in a matter of months, three to be exact.

 ‘From 23 April 2018, the first time we met privately and subsequently by July, I had proposed to her’ said Joseph Michael Lee about the love of his life Liew Swee Fong.

Lee’s first encounter with Liew was when St Michaels Institution was looking for a replacement for their retiring Principal. 

Liew was one the names proposed as she was a former student of SMI and was lady head prefect in the year in the year 1982.

That appointment didn’t materialize and she was subsequently appointed the Headmistress of SMJK Ave Maria Convent.   

“Liew has a Facebook account and regularly posts on it. Her Fb is public and is more like the Ave Maria notice board. She writes well and I was attracted to it and used to comment on her posts” said Michael.

Liew noticed there was this one guy making a lot of comments. “I have 5000 Fb friends but they were mostly ‘likes’ but he was regularly posting comments. 

Then one day he said he was just a friend and something clicked. That was when he started posting to me on Whatsapp and nobody else was included."

In July, 3 months after they clicked Lee proposed to Liew.

“He proposed so fast saying he didn’t want to lose me. We had gone past that romantic stage and we really and truly enjoyed each other’s company”.  

They wanted to get married soon but because she had so many family members who were overseas they decided to hold the formal celebration during the coming Easter celebration in April next year.

Chan Kam Luen, Liew’s best friend and witness to the marriage said both their ages combined totaled over 100 years yet they found a way to blossom their relationship using the tool called social- media.

2018 SPEEDO MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL MASTERS SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP

Checkout this event this weekend, the 2018 Speedo Malaysia International Masters Swimming Championship to be held at the Tuanku Zara Aquatic Centre this Saturday 8 December 2018.

This day long International competition as the name suggests has a participation on 200 Malaysians including 50 foreigners from Singapore, Hong Kong , Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, France, Sri Lanka and China.

Organised by New Wave Swimming Club the competition is open to anyone above 20 years though I am told that 2 former Olympic and 10 SEA Games participants are competing so it looks like a good mix.

 The championship is scheduled to start at 8:00 am and the races will involve the following events: 200M Men Freestyle, 200M Women Freestyle, 4x50M Mixed Medley Relay, 50M Men Backstroke, 50M Women Backstroke, 100M Men Freestyle, 100M Women Freestyle, 50M Men Breaststroke, 50M Men Breaststroke, 4x50M Men Freestyle, 4x50M Women Freestyle.

In the afternoon, the following events will be held namely 200M IM Men, 200M IM Women, 50M Men Butterfly, 50M Women Butterfly, 100M Men Breaststroke, 100M Women Breaststroke, 50M Men Freestyle, 50M Women Freestyle, 4x50M Men Medley Men and 4x50M Women Medley Relay.

Entrance is free of charge and members of the public are cordially invited to come and witness the event.
