Fun With Traditional Games - SamaSama Main

The 'SamaSama Main' event that featured traditional games our children of yesteryear played was in a word FUN.

A FUN time was had by all

It was an eye opener as it got the community that turned up to stay to play longer.

The event was part of the National Day celebrations that will go on till Malaysia Day on 16 September.

Held at Medan Selera Dato Sagor it had traditional games such as Kabadi, Sepak Raga, hopscotch, gasing spin or top spinning and much more.

There was also some new version of traditional games such as human sized snakes and ladders and Human Table Football and if that was not enough go watch a movie.

In short it was a great evening for the whole family and all who turned up thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Miss SC Chan who came with her brother and his family said they planned to stay for a look-see for the sake of her nephews but having participated in the games they stayed 2 hours.

State Tourism, Arts and Culture Chairman Tan Kar Hing said the event was part of a plan to bring communities together and was part of the new Malaysia.

The program will continue next weekend with a different theme SamaSama Ria.

Ipoh: A Future City From The Past

The start of the National Day celebrations for Perak began on Saturday 12 August with a talk ‘Ipoh: Future City From the Past’.

 

Planning the future, En Zulkarnain, En Meor Zaidi and Teoh Chee Keong

The speakers was En Zulkarnain, MBI’s City Planner and En Meor Zaidi, Landscape Engineer also with MBI and Asst Professor Teoh Chee Keong from USCI University.

The speakers from MBI presented what we had seen and heard about before.  

What Teoh presented was new and the future direction, “with the consent of the government and authorities”, that Ipoh could become.

 

A plan.. all alongside the Kinta River

He talked of what was available in Ipoh and all it had to offer from the Kinta River, stretching from YMCA to till Kg Paloh , Old Town and get this - Taman DR and Waller Court and also what Kg Kuchai had to offer.

In particular he talked of Waller Court, yes one of the earliest low cost housing development next to Taman DR that had been singled out for redevelopment.

He termed Waller Court as 17 blocks of walk-up flats with interesting and creative features which could be rejuvenated.

“It could be affordable housing for young people, a SOHO (small office home office). The interior could attract start-up and design firms or architects while the outdoors for night market and event space.

It could well be the next happening place in Ipoh after Concubine Lane”

All of a sudden I felt that it was Renaissance 2 about to start in Ipoh again.

This could be the start of an interesting month with Sama SAyangi MAlaysiaku.

OMPH Church Merdeka Fellowship Dinner

It was just a fundraising dinner affair for their various programs but it seemed much more.

They sang songs of joy and made like it was Merdeka once again… which was the theme for the night … “Sights and Sounds of yesteryear”.

Food, friendships and good clean fun for all and to quote Fr Patrick Masang, ‘go out and celebrate the victory of our new government’.

Direct Flights IPH-BKK, Tourism Chairman Listens To Industry Stakeholders

Come next year we will have direct flights to Bangkok said Perak Tourism Committee Chairman Tan Kar Hing.

Without disclosing the airline operator he said Bangkok was chosen as it where international tourists worldwide use as a transit hub.

  

He made the statement when meeting tourism stakeholders to get their concerns of the industry and what were their expectations.

Admitting that he (Tan) was the new kid on the block he wanted to hear some feedback from the stakeholders. The turnout saw a fair cross section of the industry in attendance.

There was a lot of feedback though all of it negative. Cleanliness, parking touts, poor enforcement of tour guides and poor advertising of events were some of the issues mentioned.

Tan noted their comments and would look into them.

Its still too early to expect much and only time will tell what we can expect so all the best to Tan Kar Hing.

SAMA SAyangi MAlaysia ke 61 - Volunteers Needed

Perak state government has got some elaborate plans lined up for this year’s 61^st National Day celebrations.

They have come up with an elaborate 6 week program of activities, starting from the 12^th August, which will cater for all Ipohites to be involved and they need approximately 500 volunteers for their various programs.

According to Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman YB Tan Kar Hing this year’s theme for the National Day celebration is Friendly Malaysia or Sama Sama Sayangi Malaysia.

“It is hoped that through this program we can promote this new era for Malaysia with a new state government and a new Federal Government”.

The program kicks off this Sunday with a talk "Ipoh: Future City from the Past"

 Starting this weekend 12^th August it will kick off with Sama Sama Forum, a series of talks which ranges from ' Ipoh: Future City from the Past (12 Aug)’ to ‘Tourist Trails  (19 Aug) and ‘Development of Local Films (2 Sept).

Besides talks they’ve also got planned Sama Sama TONTON (movie screening in collaboration with FINAS), Sama Sama MAIN (playing traditional games) Sama Sama SKETCH (a marathon sketch at attractive locations), SamaSama ZUMBA and SamaSana DAKI (a hike up Kledang Hill)and much more.

 These activities will take place at various venues in Old Town’s Birch Tower and 22 Hale Street, Kinta Riverwalk and Silver Youth House at Taman DrSeenivasagam, Waller Court and more.

State Youth and Sports chairman Howard Lee who was also present said the programs by the new state government are ambitious and he hoped the youth would use it as a platform to be involved and participate.

A ‘2nd Meet Up’ asking for volunteers will be held at Nam Heong Ipoh Soho this Saturday 11th Aug 2018 at 3pm at Block B, 2-15, Ipoh Soho, Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah,.

Piala Muhibbah KLK – A Tournament At Fostering Friendship

Did you know that we have a football tournament called the Piala Muhibbah KLK and that this is the fourth year of the tournament.

The rules of the game are simple. If the players are from a Malay club then they have to make up a team of 11 players consisting  of 7 Malay, 2 Indian and 2 Chinese to qualify to play, simple.

Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka has defined ‘Muhibbah’ as  perasaan persahabatan dan kemesraan or feeling of friendship and camaraderie or closeness.

Just what we need at this time when we have a new government and a new liberalism it seems just the right initiative to promote MUHHIBBAH.

According to William Chang the organizer, the tournament is part of Kuala Lumpur Kepong’s CSR project 'KLK Care' with the tagline ‘Values Matter, Society Matters’. 

"That was the sole purpose, fostering friendship. 

It started four years ago. That first year was difficult because the teams found it difficult to grasp the concept and so we relaxed the rules somewhat.

But the second year onward we followed the rule strictly and it’s been following regulation since’.

This is a two day tournament 4 and 5 August with 16 teams from Ipoh participating. Tomorrow 5th August will be the final and the tournament should end by 2pm.

Chang who is attached with Ipoh Bug a Youth Sports Club had entered his team that somehow overextended the spirit of Muhibbah to make it international.

Besides the usual Chinese, Malay and Indian he has included Finland, Korean, American players to the team.

A small tournament but big and timely at this time in history.
