Michelle and Jean in Ipoh for their 'special Marriage'
Oscar award winner Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and Datuk Seri Jean Todt were in Ipoh over the weekend of 17 December 2023 where they had a ‘special kind of marriage' reception.
The couple were dressed casually for the event. Michelle wore a lime green top over an apple green trouser and platform sneakers while Jean had on a dark collarless t-shirt and slacks.
As the couple addressed the crowd, consisting of mainly family members and a small group of close friends, clapped and hummed the wedding march while others threw flowers of confetti.
Michelle Yeoh married Jean Todt earlier this year at Geneva, Switzerland. Jean had first proposed to Michelle in 26 July 2004. Although she had said yes on that same day she married him exactly 19 years or 6992 days later on 27th July 2023.
Jean addressed the crowd saying that 'today after 7135 days we are in Ipoh. We have known each other for many years but now we are happy to announce our marriage officially with all of you here today'.
..they made the announcement ..
..shared her trophy with the audience ...
Michelle added that her family and cousins some of whom had come from far and near such as Canada, UK, US and Singapore were present this weekend.
"Today is very special.I wish my dad was here. It was something he always wanted. Everyone here today are witnesses that Jean and I actually married after nineteen years". She later displayed her Oscar Award.
..that KISS moment when Jean kissed her cheek ...
The audience repeatedly requested that Michelle and Jean kiss. Michelle was reluctant but Jean decided to make the first move to kiss Michelle on the cheek to applause from the family members. Michelle appears stunned to which Jean proceeds to kiss her on the lips. More applause. While Michelle appears surprised Jean nonchalantly has a smirk of accomplishment.
..then the lips ... no you shouldn't have done that!!!
the audience is satisfied ..Jean smirks
The lunch reception was held at Little Katong. Chef David Tan is a childhood friend of Michelle and they grew up together.
It was a truly family gathering where all in the family came together for the weekend just to greet Michelle and Jean. For many it was a most enjoyable and happy day to see their Michelle married.
there was joy all around ...

The individual panels based on the Joyful mysteries
Catch the blessing
of the Stained Glass panels at the Main Convent Chapel this Saturday 16th
December at 8am.
Magnificent .... the Main Convent
Based on the
Joyful Mysteries the panels were first announced In April and now in December
are about to be blessed.
At the work-in-progress last Saturday at the Chapel
The folks at
COGA (Convent Old Girls Association) have done a good job of restoring the beauty
to the Chapel.
There will
be a lot to do and see in Ipoh town this weekend but start it with an early
Chapel blessing. And maybe make a contribution to the Stained Glass Chapel
which is still short of its target.
I attended the Last Rosary for October by BEC area St Francis of Assisi..they had a lovely decorated altar
the area members ....
the final hymn sung to the tune 'Amazing Grace'
..after the Rosary a 'makan kecil' fellowship with nasi kunyit, chicken curry, popiah, loh si fun, mango's and jam rolls ...did i mention the meal was 'kecil'....
It was an easy day. Nothing urgent. The kids were free so we (the family) decided to have lunch together. Tok Alang was thrown out and we all agreed. On a working day a 3 hour lunch is ok.
Haven't been here to Tg Tualang for over 3 years. First it was because of the Pandemic and then i didn't have the crowd. You do need the numbers to order to enjoy what they have to offer. But the food is still superbly excellent thankfully and the taste is gastronomically great.
Sweet sour crab ... literally finger licking goodness gravy and all ...
Steam prawn each has a different flavour from ....
...deep fried prawns..and dipped in chilly sauce ...absolutely delectable
the smooth fleshy Lam Khor Yee ..... worth every penny
Tg Tualang ....undoubtedly still the best value in the state of Perak.
Clr Lee having a meeting with food outlet owners last week. Pix sent by Clr Lee.
“A summons
of Rm1000 can be issued once we find the grease trap not functioning” said
Councillor Lee Zee Hoo / Zone13 to the owners all food outlets in Ipoh Garden
South last Tuesday 15 August 2023.
Clr Lee was referring to a Fb post by Gough Leong on 4 August of a ‘A
heavily clogged drain right in IGS (Ipoh Garden South) ...in front of "Uncle Long' and 'Born To
Bread'. … it looks "Mouldy Green???"...and its stinks to high
heaven...I think IGS drains .... has
been neglected for too long a time/ over 5 years .. I wish that MBI clear the goop immediately ….absolute disgrace
Fb reader Amirul sent Clr Lee contact. (r) Aug 4, Pix of the Mouldy Green Filthy Drain
On 11 Aug…Another
FB person suggested to contact the councillor of Zone 13 Lee Tze Hoo. When contacted
Clr Lee said he was ‘monitoring and was also working with Jabatan Kesihatan to
have a briefing with all the Food and beverage outlets from IGS”
On 17 Aug a
resident of IGS sent photos of MBI personel at IGS premises inspecting the
drains. The resident also informed that 2 MBI health inspectors were present.
When approached ‘inspectors said that they would summon immediately in future’.
Aug 17. resident of IGS sent pics of MBI checking the drain
This was confirmed
later when Clr Lee was contacted.
Hopefully MBI
will clean the drain and monitor and maintain the cleanliness of IGS going
forward….forever
Small plates served meat, sashimi and salads with soup and rice .
I didn’t
know about this new place in Ipoh .. Tonkatsu Kiso or Ton which means pork tenderloin, Katsu or cutlet
and Kiso meaning kiss which putting it together says PorkCutlets with a Kiss.
.
Of course a young resident suggested this place or I would never have found it. It is the equivalent
of a pub (I googled it) or izakaya restaraunt (is a type of informal Japanese barthat serves alcoholic drinks and snacks. Izakaya are casual places for after-work) ... that served small plates of very delicious meal served with rice and their soup.
In our case
we had tonkatsu, a sashimi plate (salmon, tuna and scallop ++ with a generous portion of wasabi) with salads. In short it was light,
refreshing and very delectable with all the wasabi, mustard, soy sauces…something
different.
Pork tenderloin ...

Mesmerizing..the grounds of the old College General@Pulau Tikus
The old
College General in Pulau Tikus Penang was the first Seminary in the Malayan
Diocese. I took these photos of the seminary, which must have been in the late
70’s, and realized we have a big Church. I made up a group who attended the event to
video (it was the thing at the time) the event.
We arrived
late so it was a rush setting up. When I got to the place I was mesmerized with
the place. It was large and imposing and had these large trees on the grounds.
The event
was the Silver Jubilee though I don’t remember what it was in commemoration of . Apparently the whole clergy of the Penang Diocese was present. A section of the garden
was decked out in white by the clergy. I recognised Bishop Soter Fernandez who
was the main celebrant and was that also Fr Ken Williams.

Congregation (right) and the clergy
... the whole of Penang Diocese was present ....
Amongst the
non-clergy crowd was a distinguished looking elderly gentleman in a uniform
that clearly wasn’t military. Thirty years
later, I discovered that it was a uniform of a Papal Knight and the person
donning the suit was the late Dato James Francis Augustine.
Standing at extreme right was Papal Knight Dato James Francis Augustine
( About Augustine …for his services to the Catholic Church in Malaysia ..
earned him the Bene Merenti Medal in 1953 and a Papal knighthood in 1959 when
he was made Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Sylvester. Papal Knight’s are appointed by the Pope.)
I recently
took it out from my album (yes these were prints). It was faded and the glue
from the album had penetrated into the prints forming orange smears. Thanks for
digital repairing for it made look presentable. One more sharing to reflect on the
heritage of the Catholic Church in the country.
I somtimes see this old Chinese woman on my morning rounds. She scavenges for recyclabes. Today she had an enormous load for the recycle shop. It reminded me of what our old Mahathir said of the Chinese recently. ...irrespective of their age......
