On My Jalan2 - Tapah

On my recent jalan-jalan through Tapah i passed this banglo.. actually i couldn't miss it. It was on the main road into Tapah from the south and it was in between the Petronas station and the Police station.

From the fenced up area and wide garden it must have belonged to a rich towkay, definitely not a Malay aristocrat.

From the way it has been preserved to its pre-war design the towkay's descendants must be educated and appreciative of their ancestry.

The house faces east and imagine opening the front window and looking up to the Titiwangsa Range of mountains and Cameron Highlands.

I tell you my Perak holds so much untold history.

Does This MBI Dustbin Belong Here ?

MBI overflowing dustbin outside KFC Ipoh Garden (L) Photo taken on the 25th (R) taken on the 27th

This MBI dustbin, located at KFC Ipoh Garden, was seen 'overflowing ' on Wednesday 25th.

Fb friend Angela posted a similar photo on Thursday 26th.

I took today's photo , Friday 27'. Today i enquired from KFC if this bin was theirs. Answer was negative. Their rubbish is thrown at the back.

So whose dustbin is this?

Should it be here?

Who put it be here?

How long before it is cleared?

Paradise Lost - Golden Sands Pangkor Island - Post 2015

Back to the Jungle ..Golden Sands

This is a photograph (cropped at the sides) of Golden Sands / Pan Pacific Resort that was posted by Jeyne Pathy Sarritzu (Does anyone remember Golden Sands Pangkor Island). The resorts looks like its been given back to the jungle hence "Paradise Lost" or the Jungle took back what it once owned.

I recall in the early 70’s we would land at the jetty which was on the east side and take an old bus for a short ride through the coconut grove till we reached Golden Sands.

The original photograph.Thank you Jeyne.

Wesak Weekend ... May 14

A trader selling all kinds of knick knacks at Concubine lane this Wesak weekend

Trust a senior to forget it’s a holiday weekend ie Wesak day that falls the next day, on Sunday the 15th.

I was on my way to my noon watering hole, the Sinhalese when the traffic reminded me that it was a holiday weekend.

Bumper to bumper ...only on a holiday weekend

It was cars galore at Oldtown. I had to park one block away and walk to my watering hole passing by Concubine lane

..a transformed Concubine lane from 10 years ago ..

a chic diner on the Lane ...

..totally transformed ... maybe for the better

It’s a blessing that Ipoh is halfway in between Penang and Kuala Lumpur but its hard on us Ipoh residents at weekend holidays.

..but at the Sinhalese ..Alfred and Kamala with a fellow countryman Melissa ... an oasis of solitude

Amidst all of the hustle and bustle..inside of the Sinhalese it was an oasis of solitude. But all’s well that ends well .... after that cold one.

Cheers

..’Our home was in Ipoh, a growing town on the banks of the Kinta River, centre of the tin-mining district and soon to become capital  of the rich State of Perak .

Round the town were the still peaceful hills, rounded hills bluish white in the sunshine with trees spilling over their upper slopes like green paint spilling out of a tube. It was a beautiful country … still innocent of the trappings of war’ …Sybil Kathigasu, No Dram of Mercy...  before the war reached Ipoh.

Hari Raya 2022..A Nightmare Traffic Jam, A 'Panic Raya' Then A Joy To Remember

Hari Raya 2022 was "memorable" with 'longer that usual' traffic jams and 'panic raya' announcement....

Hari Raya 2022 will long be remembered for the date when the Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced a relaxation of Covid19 restrictions. Now without the movement restriction just before Hari Raya on May 3 we were free to move outside without masks.

For all Malaysians nationwide it was a most joyous announcement for many had not returned home for two years..

MAY 1 or Labour Day was a Sunday so Monday 2nd was an off day with May 3 supposed to be Eid as it was highlighted on kalendar-kuda’ nationwide

It was reported that over 2 million cars were on the road on May 1 a staggering number. It was also reported that some took 7 hours travelling from KL to Ipoh  another staggering number for a journey that usually took just over 2 hours.

Then at 8pm on Sunday night the Keeper of the Rulers Seal announced that Eid would be held be on Monday 2 instead of the 3rd. Another surprise for people who ‘waited till the eleventh hour’ to complete their preparations.

For the first time have I heard the phrase 'Raya Panic'. For those who were stuck in the snarling traffic jam it must have been the start of  the panic.

..but it was happy. Ex NST journalist Luly Shahabudin and family at her ancestral home at Kuala Kangsar

For us non Malay senior citizens our shock was next morning at being shut off from our favorite eateries by hordes of outstation patrons and returning family members all queuing up to feast on Ipoh's fare of good foods.

...hordes of customers everywhere ...at popular village eateries for breakfast...

...at popular city eateries for dinner ...

..food courts saw whole families eating together at dinner time..it was a good scene

It carried on for the duration of the holiday. Even my phone order to my regular diner was turned down .....' sorry uncle no order today, too many customers'.

..the joy of meeting friends carried on late into the night ...on Jalan Iskandar

...at Central Market, Jalan Laxamana...

it was very busy ..barbeque chicken wings, Chinese and Indian noodles

And so it so was to be like that from the 1st. Crowds, slow moving traffic all over Ipoh, full diners. It carried on until the 4th evening when all establishments began returning to normal.

..on Wednesday evening May 4.. the traffic was 'quieter'....

And so that was the Hari Raya 2022. It might have started on a ‘panic note’ but there’s always a pleasure seeing loved ones. It will be a year to remember when the Covid restrictions were lifted after 2 years, a traffic jam marathon but overall it was a pleasant time.

Selemat Hari Raya..Maaf Zahir dan Batin
