IPOH: Two geoparks in the Kinta Valley National Geopark, Gunung Kanthan and the Hulu Kinta Forest Eco Park located in the Hulu Kinta Sub -district, face the risk of destruction if not given due attention.

Therefore, several environmental non -governmental organizations (NGOs) are urging the state authorities to intervene, in conserving and maintaining these two geotaps, including Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM), Sahabat Alam Activists Association (KUASA), Pertubuhan Alam Sekitar Sejahtera Malaysia (GRASS Malaysia. ), Malaysian Green Earth Movers Association, Perak Natural Heritage Geopark Guides Association, Perak Nature and Ocean Defenders Association and Kinta Valley Watch.

A spokesman for the organizations, Meor Razak Meor Abdul Rahman, said the two geoparks faced the risk of destruction without due attention, apart from the fact that both were abandoned compared to several other geoparks in the Kinta Valley National Geopark.

“We are worried that the Gunung Kanthan Geotapak will be destroyed upon receiving information the state authorities have extended the land lease period of the area, to a company operating a cement enterprise last year.

"The extension of the lease period for the area disappoints us and contradicts the Ipoh Local Plan 2020 (RT Ipoh 2020)," he said in a statement here.

According to him, in the notification of RT Ipoh 2020, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) will propose to the State Authority not to approve more quarrying activities in the administrative area of the Local Authority (PBT).

These photographs are part of the Gopeng Pipeline specifically the KWS or the Kampar Water Supply. It was dismantled and sold for scrap in 2008.

The Gopeng pipeline before it was dismantled

The KWS was built in 1915 and had a length of 12.1 Km.

On the road to Adeline's Villa at Kg Sungai Itek

The old and rusted pipe  leaked water ...

..we had to go under the pipe to get home .....

.... others found a good use for it on a hot afternoon

passed alongside My Gopeng Resort

and that was only a small part of the journey.
