Buntong Hill before and now. Photo by GAP |
A word of appreciation to Goh Ah Poon, photographer and nature lover and Meor Razak field officer for Sahabat Alam Malaysia for their follow up on Kledang hill.
Goh recently
provided an updated photo of Buntong hill, Kledang Range on 17 November showing
green vegetation instead of yellow gravel on his FB page.
“Under the
guidance and leadership of Saudara Meor Razak, we did manage to slow things
down. The Buntong Hill development project was stopped for the time being,
hopefully for the long term’ said Goh.
When viewed from Ipoh town though it looks like there’s still a long way to go.
Hopefully the photograph by Goh means an end to the project at Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve and then Meor can proceed with his plan to organize a tree replanting program.
“Thank you
all for voicing out your love for Ipoh hills and supporting the petition to
Save Kledang Hill. Let's join hands and continue to keep our eyes open for our
beautiful hills” ….. Goh.

Kg Kuchai surrounded by the 4 roads and a river that make up its boundry |
Imagine there used to be 30 kampongs throughout Ipoh.
But that was before the 1874 Treaty of Pangkor.
Ipoh was made up of 30 kampongs ..... |
..throughout the Kinta valley |
The treaty resolved the issue of the Perak Sultanate at the time and the problematic Chinese secret societies of Ghee Hin and Hai San who wanted control of the tin business otherwise known as the Larut Wars.
Well since the signing of the treaty the kampongs have slowly but surely disappeared giving way to development in what is now Heritage Ipoh.
Now only Kg Kuchai remains. It must be preserved |
Now only one kampong remains ie Kg Kuchai. Of course there is Kg Kepayang further upstream of the Kinta river but it doesn’t have the character and history of Kuchai.
Panglima Kinta mosque, possibly a prewar photo but it adds to the history and character of Kg Kuchai |
No ... Kg Kuchai must be preserved. Lets see that it is.
