Inaugural Pakatan Rakyat Convention

The first ever PakatanRakyat Convention was held in Ipoh on 31 October 2009 at the Syuen Hotel.

There was a long list of PR who's who. Perak MB Nizar Jamaluddin did the opening speech. Why was the Silver State chosen to hold the convention? Because Perak has the strongest coalition amongst the other PR states.

Good turnout too.

Most visible during the morning session was Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

...show of unity....

Tok Guru Nik Aziz entered the hall in the evening....he has a very devoted following...though i did not notice him smiling as he walked in...

..not until he was greeted by Perak Speaker V Sivakumar!!!

...Could this be the next Government of Malaysia???

Tok Guru addressing the crowd...the points raised by the other speakers drew applause. ..for Tok Guru..his statements were regularly witty and drew laughter.

during the morning break...the crowd...easy going...18 months ago i probably would not have seen scenes like these....

..multi racial...As Dato Ngeh said in his speech...when the coalition was debating on who should be the MB immediately after March 8 2008 there was suspicion to have a PAS member as the Menteri Besar..but now 18 months later..the perception was ill founded ...it was just BN that painted an 'extreme' picture of PAS...

....happy and relaxed....

...obliging....

.....as with most PR events the atmosphere is Malaysian

..leading the oath taking ceremony...

.. a rousing display to committment...

..bubar,bubar, .........bubar DUN Perak....??

The purpose of the convention was to get the Party ready for the next general election. A manifesto was drawn up and debated upon while 10 resolutions were passed. After 18 months the PR team has done its checks and balances and re-strategised a new course of action.
cheers!
